Tuesday Tutorial: Christmas Card Display Board

I found this frame at a garage sale and had been itching to make a display board that I’ve seen a few other bloggers do!

Here is the original frame:

I took out the glass, spray painted it in glossy black and got this:

I then used my trusty staple gun to attach twine to the back like this:

Then, added small clothes pins to get this:

You can use this to display your kid’s artwork, Christmas cards, recipes, whatever you like!

Floor Redo: Kid’s Room

My son has asthma.

Not SUPER terrible, but the coughing at night keeps us all up.

In his room there is a door that leads out to a balcony.

A totally USELESS balcony, let me add.

Someday, I hope to add some walls around it and turn it into an upstairs laundry room…..D.R.E.A.M.

I discovered that the carpet around that terrible useless door that leads to the useless balcony had mildew.

In panic mode that this might be contributing to his coughing, I tore out the carpeting in his room and it looked like this when I did:

Before, the carpet in there was white with large stains from the time he climbed out of his crib at 18 months old, opened the Vaseline on his nightstand, and painted the carpet.

Note: Vaseline NEVER completely comes out of carpet. Obvs.

Without a lot of money to spend.

Make that NO money to spend (my mom and pops helped us out), I found some AMAZING peel and stick faux wood vinyl at Lowes.

Yes! Peel and stick!

So, last weekend, my sister and I did the following:

Ripped out the carpet.

Discovered that chip board laid under the carpet.

According to the directions, you shouldn’t lay peel and stick vinyl on chip board.

We did anyway (I’ll let you know if I ever encounter a problem because of this).

We primed the chipboard with some Kilz Primer and another primer recommended for use under the vinyl.

One that was dry, we went to work laying down the vinyl.

The last row was the hardest as we trimmed little by little to get it to fit just right.

We were able to trim it using a utility knife.

We put a transition piece from the carpet in the hall to the new vinyl flooring.

It turned out like this:

Seriously, I think he has the best looking floor in the house now!

Can you believe that is peel and stick vinyl?

No, I’m not being compensated in any way from a peel and stick vinyl company or Lowes….I am just impressed, and I love to share when I find something great!

Christmas Pillows on the Cheap

Here is a money saving tip!

Have you seen the cute pillows at Target that are $12.99 each?

Have you also seen that matching placemats can be purchased for $3.99?

Buy 3 of the placemats instead and follow this easy tutorial!

Use a seam ripper to open up a small section on the bottom of the placemat.

Stuff with stuffing (I had this already, but this can be purchased cheap, especially if you have a coupon).

Sew it back up!

You get 3 Christmas pillows for the price of one!

“It’s a Major Award”

Oh, how I love “Christmas Story”.

Okay, on to the goods!

I received my very first award!

Thank you to Wildflowers & Whimsy for thinking of me!

Rules for accepting this award are:
 1. Thank & link back to the person who awarded you this.
 2. Share 7 things about yourself.
 3. Pay it forward to 15 recently discovered great bloggers.
 4. Contact those bloggers and tell them about their award.

7 Things about me???

1. I drink lots of coffee. Sometimes 4-5 cups a day. Don’t judge…I have three kids under 6!

2. I hate Coca-Cola. I was just going to write “Coke”, but didn’t want you all to think I was talking about drugs (which I do hate too, by the way). Yes, I have been called un-American for not liking Coke.

3. I have always wanted to adopt a child ever since I volunteered at an abused and abandoned children’s center at a young age.

4. I H.A.T.E. glitter. Really. I do. I know I wrote about this already, but I REALLY do.

5. Anything with talking animals makes me giggle.

6. I have been in over 20 different plays. Starting with a rendition of “Annie” when I was five. But my absolute fave was “Godspell” when I was in high school.

7. I love me a good steak. My husband jokes about how I devoured one when we were first dating and he was in shock at my speed.

And now, here is my list of Stylish Blogger Awards!

Tutorial Tuesday: Christmas Wreath

Something to create now so it will be ready in time for Christmas decorating is this easy to do yarn wreath!

Need:

  • Styrofoam round wreath (or any shape you like)
  • Yarn in your color choice ( I chose this fluffy red yarn I liked)
  • Scrapbook paper to coordinate with your wreath (for the letters)
  • Mini Clothes Pins
  • Twine
  • Felt (optional)

Directions:

  1. Take your yarn and tie a knot around your styrofoam, and then start wrapping and winding, wrapping and winding. Yup, it takes a little patience to get around the wreath. Nothing you can’t do while watching “Grey’s Anatomy” 🙂

2.  Tie off when you get all the way around the wreath.

3.  Measure approximate length of twine, cut, and tie the ends around your wreath.

4.  I used my Silhouette Machine to cut out the letters, but you can always just print them out in a word program, trace them onto some scrapbook paper and cut them out!

5.  Take your mini clothes pins and use them to hold up your letters!

6.  I then added some felt flowers based on this tutorial but not sure what I’m liking….what’s your opinion?

                            Option 1                                                      Option 2

                     Option 3

Hang it on up and enjoy!

Rambling on Monday: WHY? Part 2

Dear People Who Purposely Take 2 Spots in the Parking Lot:

Why? It would be on thing if you drove the mom-mobile beast that I drive and do it by accident. But, when you want to take two spots to show off your shiny new car….no good. I almost want to have my kids put their sticky hands on your window. I said ALMOST….Please be more considerate.

Thank you.

Jellybean Junkyard

Dear People Who Invented Glitter,

Why? I get that it’s all shiny and pretty. But it gets everywhere. Everywhere. Then I have a piece on my face that people comment on all day because as soon as I get that piece off, another one magically appears. How do you do that? How? Glitter. You are my nemesis.

Apologies,

Jellybean Junkyard

White Bean Chili Crockpot Recipe

Another great recipe for the crock pot!!!!

Submitted by: Andrea W.

White Bean Chili:

4 frozen chicken breasts
4 cans of white kidney beans (sometimes I put in a can of black beans in place of 1 can of cannelini beans)
2 cups of chicken broth (I forgot this last time and liked it better = thicker chili)
1 jar of salsa (a big one:)
season with oregano, chili powder and I also add some red pepper flakes

Cook all day in the crock pot on low and then shred the chicken… serve with corn chips and sour cream.

My friend Kate also sticks a block of cream cheese in for the last hour… I have not tried this. I appreciate that this is low fat and tastes yummy!

THANK YOU ANDREA!!!
